Thanks A Lot

The Sleeping Pig

My first grade students did a Readers' Theatre of the story The Sleeping Pig. This is a great way to teach kids to read with expression and they love being able to hear themselves read.   It was great fun having the kids practice reading the story.  They were all so motivated to learn to read their new story.  They wanted to be ones chosen to record themselves reading. Teach a Young Child to Read

You can teach your children or grandchildren to read by following these simple steps that I have been using with children for over 36 years. I have also taught parents to follow these steps and they work. Thanks to the mom and her daughter who worked so hard and let us video tape her. Thanks to my mom for recording this video.   Click the link below to watch the video: Teach a Young Child to Read

What I Believe

What I Believe by Linda Zuniga Here is my motto: If a child does not learn the way you teach, Teach the way the child learns. I have learned and developed my beliefs throughout thirty-six years of teaching young children.  Now at this point in my career as an educator I would like to share my "Wonderful World" with all who desire to create the best learning environment for their students. I believe that if I teach so that every child has the right work at the right time they will make continuous progress. I believe if children work at the level that’s best for them, they show it through their concentration and involvement. I believe in making my classroom a place where all children achieve.    I believe in finding a way to give every student learning activities that are at the child's developmental level. I believe that using successful teaching strategies is the key to developing a classroom where children love to be because they

Mrs. Wishy-Washy

Who doesn't love Mrs. Wishy-Washy? All the kids loved when I dress up as Mrs. Wishy-Washy for Halloween.

Children and Television

I was helping my daughter with her college writing class to research the affects of television on children.  We found this article with additional links to other articles and resources.  I always knew that the influence of television is not good for kids.  But I was shocked by all the evidence.  The first thing I always tell parents at parent conferences is to turn off the TV and all electronic devices.  I can tell at the beginning of each school year which kids spend way too much time viewing and playing games.  Here is the link to the article.
